I like to start my posts as if I’m already in a conversation with you, as if we’ve been talking about the subject for a while. Have you noticed?
I realize more and more that I know very few people who aren’t afraid of being alone … who aren’t afraid of going home to an empty apartment, of eating alone, of watching a movie alone, of listening to music alone. Don’t get me wrong! I’m a sociable person. I like people. I love my friends out of my mind. But I also enjoy my time alone. A lot. It makes me really happy when I do some of the things I love … only in my own company. So I don’t get it. We weren’t born with someone holding our hand (unless you are a twin, in which case this could have actually happened). Why do people feel the need to feel comfortable or happy only when they have someone around, whether it is a friend, a lover, a cat or a dog? Does it come from the fear of being alone with their own thoughts, regrets, wishes that never came true? Yup. Hurts like hell and it’s scary when things don’t go out the way you want. Depression might even kick in.
Nonetheless…
…be happy with who you are. Accept the mistakes you did. Embrace the consequences and let them turn you into the person you will be tomorrow, whoever that new you will turn out to be.
